New CD packaging provides solution for direct mail video marketing

When a videotape arrives in the mail, most people actually take time to look at them. Their response rate usually beats traditional direct mail by sixfold. However, due to their size and weight, the cost of production and postage is prohibitive except for very targeted mailings.

Two CD’s and a brochure can be machine inserted into the Discbox Slider package.

Compact Disks are a great alternative to videotapes. The same video information can be replicated onto a CD. For B2B marketing CDs are better than videotapes. Most businesses have a computer in the office but many do not have a TV and VCR.

AOL used CDs to increase their internet membership very effectively. The CD mailing package was very simple. The CD was inserted into a cardboard sleeve, shrinkwrapped and then addressed with a pressure sensitive label. We’ve all received many of them. This package had limitations to creativity and promotional copy. Also, the overuse of this CD package has diminished its’ perceived value.

Enter the Discbox Slider. This new alternative packaging solution was designed for CD’s and DVD’s. It’s made of 18 pt. paperboard. The Discbox Slider offers 30% more printable area than traditional CD sleeves. While it’s similar in size to a plastic jewel case, it won’t crack and it is 100% recyclable.

The real benefits come in the ability to grab the customer’s eye. This package offers endless graphic potential. It can be hot foil stamped, embossed-debossed, UV coated, wafer sealed and inkjet addressed. The package is a selfmailer.

The Discbox Slider will accommodate one or two CD’s plus a 32 page booklet. The page size can be up to 4.75" X 4.75". All three components can be inserted by machine. No overwrapping or padded envelopes are required for mailing. The package weighs just 3 ounces which qualifies for Standard Mail postage rates for a letter. Simply wafer seal, inkjet address and mail.

The unique design of the Discbox Slider has renewed the effectiveness of CD mailings. The quality of the package generates a higher perceived value. Like a well-designed envelope…it asks to be opened. Once opened, most people are curious enough to view the CD.

The promotional uses are limited only by your imagination. Traditional TV commercials can be replicated onto a CD and sent to a targeted audience along with a printed coupon booklet. A video presentation can be used to introduce your company, a new product or new service. A CD could be used for annual reports, directories and catalogs with huge cost savings!

The Discbox Slider CD package is inkjet addressed and wafer sealed on one of A.M.’s Buskro inkjet systems.

Demco Media printed their 1136 page, Educational Book Catalog on a CD in 2001. They packaged it in the Discbox Slider. "We liked the package because it has a presence. It’s not a throwaway like the AOL CD packages, said Susan Dineen, the Director of Marketing at Demco. "We thought the CD would be a cost effective alternative to mailing the big catalog to everyone. Customers do keep the CD package on the shelf and use it to search products and create orders," she said.

The marketing solutions for direct mail CD’s are many. The opportunity to cut through the clutter with a unique CD package is tremendous!
