15 Step Mailing Check List

The following list of questions should be answered when planning a mailing project. Your lettershop or printer will need this information to prepare an accurate quote. Proper planning will help avoid delays, insure accuracy and can save you money.

USPS provides national toll-free help line

The USPS has established a national toll-free phone number to enhance customer service. The new number is (800) ASK-USPS (275-8777). It provides an additional way for customers to receive answers to a variety of postal related questions.

The national call center is part of centralized telephone network utilized to respond to postal service inquiries. Call Center agents provide mailing rates.

2. What’s the mail date?

3. When will printed materials be ready?

4. When will the mailing list be available?

5. Will the list be supplied CASS Certified or presorted?

6. Will the list need de-duping or coding?

7. What are the dimensions of materials?

8. What paper stock and weights will be used?

9. How much will the finished mail pieces

10. Are there any version changes?

11. How many inserts (if any) ?

12. How will postage be affixed to the mail pieces ?

13. What class of postage will be used?

14. Where will the mailing be dropped?

15. Should extra material be shipped back, recycled or stored for future mailings?
